When MARY JEFFCOAT ran for MYRTLE BEACH CITY COUNCIL four years, she made promises to the citizens of Myrtle Beach to work on a number of issues and problems. With a few months still left on her first term, Mary kept those promises and continues to work to create a better future for ALL residents in the City of Myrtle Beach. Accomplishments from her first term include:
A Safer Myrtle Beach

  • Developed plan to add, retain and recruit 70 new officers for Police Department.
  • Voted to increase salaries of Myrtle Beach police officers.
  • Added security cameras and license plate readers in city to catch more criminals.
  • Violent crime rate has dropped 17% in 2018 and 14% in 2019 so far (through June 30).

A Better Place to Live

  • Addressed residential parking issues along Ocean Boulevard.
  • Equipped all first responders with Narcan and initiated a countywide study on effects of Opioid crisis in Horry County.
  • Started Technology Advisory Council to help bring new tech jobs to the City.
  • Strengthened Myrtle Beach’s Human Rights Commission.
  • Finished renovations to Doug Shaw Stadium.
  • Developing a traffic plan for Market Common.
  • Introduced the discussion to ban single-use plastic bags in Myrtle Beach.

Improved Accountability

  • Implementing new software to make City information more accessible to the public.
  • Kept Myrtle Beach’s municipal property tax rate among the lowest in nation.
  • Holds regular office hours to meet with constituents.

Downtown Revitalization

  • Developed and implemented plan to revitalize downtown.
  • By 2020, a new historic district will help spur more affordable revitalization plans.
  • New Town Square includes plans for a new library.
